Linda Jean Cordova Carter was born on July 24, 1951, in Phoenix, Arizona. Her father, Colby Carter, was an Irish-American antique dealer, and her mother, Juana Cordova, was a Mexican-American who worked for a telephone company. Despite not speaking Spanish herself, Linda respects the language and takes pride in her Mexican roots.

From a young age, Linda was fascinated by comics featuring Wonder Woman. After completing high school, she enrolled at Arizona State University, where she was considered one of the most talented students. However, she left her studies to pursue a career in music. She performed with various rock bands for a while before returning to Arizona in 1972.

In the same year, Linda participated in a local beauty pageant and won, earning the titles of "Miss Arizona" and later "Miss USA." As the representative of the USA in the Miss World competition, Carter made it to the semifinals. She then decided to take acting classes in New York, which led to roles in television series like "Starsky and Hutch," "Cos," and "Nakia," as well as B-movies like "Bobbie Jo and the Outlaw."
